Under the auspices of His Eminence Archbishop Hovnan Derderian, Primate of the Western Diocese of the Armenian Church of North America, and the patronage of Dr. and Mrs. Hovsep and Hilda Fidanian, a special evening showcasing the works of renowned sculptor and artist Gaspar Gharibian will be held at the Zorayan Museum on Thursday, November 10, 2011 at 7:00 p.m. The event is proudly organized by the Zorayan Museum Committee.
Gaspar Gharibian was born in Nakhichevan. During his most productive years (1979-1996), he was a visiting professor of Yerevan’s Art Academy. He presently resides in Los Angeles and continues his work as a sculptor and a professional in the field of cross-stone sculpting. His beautifully sculpted cross-stones are displayed in the State of California and beyond its borders. Gaspar has been fully involved in the artistic beautification of the St. Leon Armenian Cathedral as well as the building of Diocesan Headquarters. His sculpted works are displayed in the vicinity of the Diocesan Headquarters in Burbank.
Gaspar has been an active participant in numerous group exhibitions (Armenia, Russia, Czech Republic, Georgia, Germany, Italy, Los Angeles and New York). He has also organized individual exhibitions.
Many of Gharibian’s works are acquired by museums and are part of personal collections of art aficionados (Armenia, Russia). His colossal cross-stone sculptures are displayed in Glendale, San Francisco, Phoenix, Oakland and many other churches across the United States.
According to Gharibian, the art of sculpting bears with it a quiet tune. One can hear and feel this beautiful tune when gazing at an image of sculpted art, or- its grace and movement. An artist’s obligation is to deliver this tune to all humanity.
Gharibian is widely known in the community as a talented and well-respected artist. Gaspar Gharibian will be present at the exhibition.
Admission is free and is open to the art-loving public.
