The photographs in this collection were taken by Ernst Jackh, a German political activist in the Ottoman Empire, in April 1909.  They give us interesting and grim insights into the Adana Massacres of 1909, when over 30,000 Armenians were killed in mob violence in the Adana region of Ottoman Turkey.  These events became a precursor of the Genocide of Armenians in Ottoman Turkey. Photographs have been reproduced by permission from Ernst Jackh Papers, Rare Book and Manuscript Library, Columbia University.
