APRIL 20, 2011 – LOS ANGELES CITY COUNCIL

At 10:00 a.m., on Wednesday, April 20, 2011, Los Angeles Council President Eric Garcetti and Los Angeles Councilmember Paul Krekorian announced the commemoration of the 96th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide. They also honored the legacy of Richard G. Hovannisian, Holder of the Armenian Educational Foundation, Chair in Modern Armenian History and Professor of Armenian and Near Eastern History at University of California in Los Angeles. His Eminence Archbishop Vatche Hovsepian represented the Primate at the event and on behalf of the Primate extended his sincere gratitude to the Councilmembers of the City of Los Angeles. Archbishop Hovsepian was accompanied by Archpriest Fr. Hovsep Hagopian, Rev. Fr. Zareh Mansuryan and Mr. Peter Darakjian.

APRIL 23, 2011 – MONTEBELLO, CA

The United Armenian Council (UAC) has organized a program commemorating the 96th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide. Themed “Rebirth and Redemption of the Armenian Nation,” the event will be held on Saturday, April 23, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Martyrs Monument in Montebello’s Bicknell Park.
AGBU and Homenetmen scouts will participate in flag ceremonies. For the first time, the choir of the Armenian Society of Los Angeles, conducted by Maestro Michael Avedissian, will perform. The participation of several Federal, State, City, and local officials is anticipated. The Primate and several Diocesan clergy will be in attendance.
