Eighteen Summers of Stars at Armenian-American Night

                   A summer tradition and treat, Armenian-American Night at Nassau County’s Eisenhower Park, is in its eighteenth year.   Be a part of this year’s excitement on Sunday, August 19th at 7 pm. at the park’s scenic Harry Chapin Lakeside Theatre.  Free and open to one and all, the program for 2007 promises to be one of our best.

                    Direct from Aleppo, Syria, singing sensation Karno will perform his repertoire of romantic songs and toe-tapping numbers. Born in 1977, Karno received his preliminary musical education in Syria and studied with Araks Chekijyan, professor of Komitas State Conservatory.   This rising star will shine brightly at Armenian-American Night as he performs his chart-topping hits, like “You are Different” and, “My Unforgettable Love.” Karno is delighted to be introduced to American audiences, Armenian as well as non-Armenians, at this special venue.

                     Famous among the Armenian communities of the U.S. and Canada, the Akh’tamar Dance Ensemble of AASEC will also grace our stage.  The name, “Akh’tamar” is shared by an island in the middle of Lake Van. According to legend, the island was named after Princess Tamar, who is fabled to have built a fire on the island each night to guide her love, as he swam across the lake to see her.  Akh’ tamar is an apt name for the ensemble that features 62 beautiful, young Armenian girls or princesses of dance. Over the past ten years, these princesses of dance, between the ages of 6 and 25, have raised their dance skills to new heights.  They dedicate hours of rehearsal time, under the tutelage of their director/choreographer, Sylva Asadourian, to ensure a spectacular presence at every performance.  The ensemble is excited to be a part of Armenian- American Night 2007.
                      
                         So don’t forget to treat yourself to the summer ritual of Armenian-American Night.  Just bring your lawn chairs and join the crowd of smiling faces on Sunday, August 19th.  Remember, it’s free, alfresco and there’s always room for one more!
